How to Configure SNMP Services

Complete this procedure to configure SNMP monitoring for Output Manager.

  1. In the Output Manager Console navigation pane, select the Administration application.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Manage Devices.
  3. In the SNMP services grid, select the check box for the server you want to configure.
  4. Click Configure to open the SNMP Server Configuration dialog box.
    Tip: Click the Help button for information about options in this dialog box.
  5. Configure the settings in Autodetection method as follows:
    1. Select the Use SNMP Detection check box.
    2. In the Auto-detection period field, specify how often you want to run the auto-detection process.
      Auto-detection is initially disabled, so the default value is 00.00:00:00.
      For example, to specify an auto-detection period of one hour, set the value to 00.01:00:00.
    3. Select a detection method of Broadcast or IP Range(s).
      If you select IP Range(s), click Configure ranges and configure settings in the Configure IP Ranges dialog box.

      For more information about configuring IP ranges, click the Help button in that dialog box.

  6. Configure the settings in the SNMP update and meter parameters section as follows:
    1. To use the Domain Name System (DNS) instead of the IP address to communicate with a printer, select Use DNS printer names if available.
    2. If necessary, change the Default community name value of public to your community name when running SNMP detection using SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c.
    3. Select the Default SNMP version for global communication with all SNMP devices.
      Tip: Click the Help button for more information about Default SNMP version options in this box.
  7. To define when Output Manager gathers information from a device, configure the settings in the SNMP metering section as follows:
    1. Select Update metering values.
    2. Enter the SNMP metering period.
    3. Enter the SNMP metering timeout period in seconds.
  8. To define how often Output Manager updates static values, configure the settings in the Static update section as follows:
    1. Select Update static values.
    2. Enter the Static update period.
    3. Enter the Static update timeout period in seconds.
  9. To define how often Output Manager updates dynamic values, configure the settings in the Dynamic update section as follows:
    1. Select Update dynamic values.
    2. Enter the Dynamic update period.
    3. Enter the Dynamic update timeout period in seconds.
  10. If you selected Auto or SNMPv3 as the default SNMP version, configure the settings in the Global SNMPv3 settings section as follows:
    These are the user credentials that match the SNMPv3 configuration on each v3-enabled device to communicate through SNMPv3. You can override the global settings for each Output Manager device.
    1. Enter the user name in the User field.
    2. Enter the password in the Authentication Password field.
    3. Select the authentication Protocol.
    4. Enter the Encryption password.
    5. Select the encryption Algorithm.
    6. Enter the Remote engine context name.
  11. Click OK.
